New US Embassy Compound, Bujumbura, Burundi

The new US Embassy was located on a 10-acre compound in the Kigobe disctrict of Bujumbura as part of an Overseas Building Office (OBO) Pilot Project.  The project is LEED Gold certified.

Sensitivity to local culture, climate, techniques, and plant and hardscape materials was integral to the design of United States soil overseas. Despite continuing concerns of security for Americans overseas, the State Department is committed to creating spaces that are responsive to indigenous conditions while being welcoming and accessible.
