The Yards Public Realm Streetscape, Phases I & II
Located near the historic Navy Yard, Forest City’s The Yards is the mixed-use redevelopment element of the Washington DC Federal Center. The Yards redevelopment has transformed this former industrial complex area and re-imagined historically significant structures as mixed-use pavilions that are social centers amidst a riverfront park.
The redevelopment concept includes innovative storm water management systems allowing the streetscapes to play a significant role in improving water quality in the Anacostia River. The streets will include permeable pavements and bio retention facilities which filter street run-off as a first line of healthful waterflow management defense for the river.
